Kirkfield,

Located on the east end of Canal Lake is the small town of Kirkfield, ON.
1895 work the Trent Valley Canal begins, Sir William Mackenize, Kirkfield's Most
famous son.
Kirkfield, situated on Hwy. #48 and in the heart of the cottage country
and the main gateway to the Carden Plain natural Heritage area, local merchants
now cater to the tourist trade. Many people are migrating from big cities
to build new homes and summer retreats in the area. Thousands of tourists
visit the village by car and boat each year. They also come to fish and
play on Canal and Mitchell Lakes. They marvel at the magnificent
engineering of the world's second tallest lift locks (approx. 2 miles N. of the
village) . 2007 was the 100th Anniversary of the Kirfield Lift Lock.
